Scientific summary

I received the M.A. degree from the University of Paris VI in 1974 and the Ph.D. and D.S. degrees from the University of Lille, France, in 1977 and 1980, respectively. I have published widely in the areas of molecular biology and immunology of parasitic diseases with over 130 articles and several book chapters. I acted as a senior investigator {Pasteur Institute, Lille, (1977–1982)}; scientist in charge of research team {Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM research unit nº 167), 1992–1989}; Director of Research at INSERM (1989-2011).

Head of the CJF INSERM nº 96-04 (1996–2000) at the Faculty of Medicine, Montpellier, France and Head of the IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement) research unit nº 008, “Trypanosomatids Pathogeny” (2001–2007). My research activities received financial support from National (INSERM and the French Medical Research Foundation) and International (WHO, EEC, Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research, IFCPAR) Institutions. I have contributed since several years to the magisterial teachings of parasite immunology and molecular biology. I served as a supervisor of 18 Ph.D. theses and 13 M.A. degrees. I was a Vice President of the “INSERM Nord-Pas de Calais-Grand Ouest” of the Regional Advisory Scientific Council (CSCRI) during the period 1993–1995. I served as a member of the following committees: Scientific Commission of IRD (2003–2007), the Regional Ethical Committee of Animal Experimentation (2002–2009), the Administrative Council of the French Society of Immunology (2005–2007), the Evaluation Committee (SVSE 3) of the French National Research Agency (ANR) (2008-2010), of several thesis juries in French and Foreign Universities. I was a Member of the American Association of Immunology (2003-2007) and acted as expert consulted by international reviews and national as well as international scientific organizations for grants evaluation.
