Jacques-Olivier Pers is professor, hospital physician at University of Brest and Brest University Hospital since 2008.
He is the director of the INSERM research team UMR1227 “B cells and autoimmunity", since October 2011. This Laboratory belongs to the LABEX “Immunotherapy, graft, oncology”.
His research is focussed on immunopathology and immunotherapy dedicated to the study of normal and pathological B cells. Different models are studied: autoimmune diseases (Sjögren’s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis), lymphoproliferative disorders (chronic lymphocytic leukemia), and kidney graft rejection from upstream approaches (epigenetics and autoimmunity, the genetic control of BAFF, calcium signaling, regulatory B cells) to downstream approaches (multicenter clinical trials, IVIg, patents).
His studies have yielded 128 original articles and reviews. He is actually heavily involved in the European Consortium "Innovative Medicine Initiative" (IMI) "Molecular Reclassification to Find Clinically Useful Biomarkers for Systemic Autoimmune Diseases (PRECISESADS)", which aims to use "OMIC" techniques (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, proteomics) and bioinformatics in order to re-classify these known diseases to share common pathophysiological mechanisms.
