Scientific summary

Bronchial or pulmonary vascular hyperreactivity is a key feature in a variety of chronic diseases of bronchi (e.g. asthma, chronic bronchitis) or of the pulmonary vasculature (e.g., primary or secondary pulmonary hypertension). The smooth muscle cell is the main effector implicated in tone and reactivity (bronchial or pulmonary vascular) under the control of neurotransmitters or inflammatory mediators released by inflammatory cells recruited within the bronchial or pulmonary vascular wall. The overall objective of our research program aims at identifying, at various though complementary levels of integration, innovative therapeutic targets in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and pulmonary hypertension.
