An ongoing challenge is the fight against infectious diseases, namely as a result of pathogen adaptation to their hosts. We are pursuing, on a structural and biochemical basis, the characterization of enzymes involved in the capture of DNA or modification of pathogen DNA in order to adapt to their environment, either to the hosts or for evolution. The two areas of interest at this moment are integrases involved in bacterial antibiotic resistance, and Malaria. The biochemistry and structural biology includes protein chemistry, nucleic acid - protein complex formation, and x-ray diffraction of enzymes involved in site specific recombination of DNA.
