Scientific summary

The main objectives of the Institute of Pharmacology and Structural Biology (IPBS) are to characterize fundamental mechanisms that control the function of biological systems in order to develop pharmacological applications. With that respect, our team has developed and currently maintain a cutting edge centre in biochemistry, biophysics and bio-crystallography.  Our expertise covers the different steps required for determining crystal structures of biological macromolecules and understanding their structure-function relationships: production and purification of recombinant proteins, characterization in solution and crystallization of proteins and their complexes (protein-protein, protein-DNA, protein-ligands), X-ray scattering and diffraction studies, 3D structure determination and analysis. We put our expertise and equipment at the disposal of the scientific community through a crystallographic facility, which is part of the interdisciplinary Integrated Screening Platform of Toulouse (PICT-IBiSA).

Research interests: fight against mycobacterial diseases, characterization of new protein families, enzymes for biotechnological applications, bacterial pore-forming toxins, methodological developments.
