During his 1982-1986 PhD program, Pierre Verrelle had a research activity on molecular aspects of cancer metastasis and drug resistance in the teams of Dr Marie-France Poupon (IRSC, CNRS) in Villejuif and Pr Pierre Chambon (LGME, CNRS/INSERM) in Strasbourg. After this training in cancer biology, he specialized in radiation oncology. Since 1987, his clinical and research activity focuses on stereotactic irradiation and exploring radiation resistance of brain tumors with the main objective to develop a combined approach of spatial and biological targeting in neuro-oncology. Since 2004, Pierre Verrelle is head of a University translational research team in oncology (CREaT renewed 2012-2016). CREaT gathers together the departments of radiation oncology (Jean Perrin AntiCancer Center) and hematology (University Hospital) and focuses on targeting of glioblastoma radioresistance, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia chemoresistance. Pierre Verrelle was the President of the French Cancer Society in 2006 and 2007.
