Course and current status

Pr Jaber is Head of the Critical Care and Anesthesia Department of Saint-Eloi University Montpellier in Montpellier-France He is full professor in Anesthesiology and Critical Care since 2007. He is President of the scientific council of the French Society of Anesthesia and Critical Care (SFAR). He is member of the board of several journals and reviewer of the top first quartile journals in the respiratory, anesthesiology and critical care fields. He is senior editor of the respiratory and mechanical ventilation section of the Intensive Care Medicine Journal since 2013. 

He is Vice-Dean and President elect of the scientif council of the Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier-Nimes since 2014.

Scientific summary

Pr Jaber has a strong involvement in both clinical and experimental research and is running a clinical research laboratory dedicated to mechanical ventilation studies. He developed clinical research in the field of the perioperative medicine, from operating room to intensive care medicine. He has published more than 200-peer-reviewed articles in the field of sedation, acute respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation, in the highest ranked journals of medicine (NEJM, JAMA...), respiratory, anesthesiology and critical care medicine.

He developped an animal piglet model of prolonged mechanical ventilation which permitted to explore the mechanisms (mechanistics and patways) of so-called Ventilatory Induced Diaphram Dysfunction (VIDD). He contribued of several translational publications included animal models and human patients in intensive care unit.
