Scientific summary

My research activites focus on the mathematical and computer modeling of infectious diseases, with the aim of better understanding phenomena, while providing predictions on future evolutions and helping decision-makers with the comparative assessment of control strategies.

Over recent years I have developed compartmental (deterministic and stochastic) and agent-based models to study various important public health issues, including:

  • the selection of multi-resistant pneumococcal strains in human populations, under the influence of conjugate vaccines and antibiotics
  • the diffusion of bacterial pathogens in healthcare settings, and the impact of hand hygiene or of antibiotic prescription strategies
  • the relationship between work organization within hospitals, the physical psychological health of hospital staff and the risk of healthcare-associated infections for patients
