Course and current status

Jacques-Olivier Pers is professor, hospital physician at University of Brest and Brest University Hospital since 2008.

He was the director of the INSERM research team UMR 1227 “B cells and Autoimmunity", University of Brest, France, from October 2011 to December 2021.. This Laboratory belongs to the LABEX “Immunotherapy, graft, oncology”.

He is the president of the French Institute for Dentistry Research (IFRO), co-chair of eSSential –EULAR Sjogren’s Syndrome Experimental aNd Translational Investigative Alliance Study Group, and  has been the Deputy Director of the Doctoral School of Biology-Health-Loire Bretagne University (2016-2021).

Scientific summary

His research is focussed on immunopathology and immunotherapy dedicated to the study of normal and pathological B cells. Different models are studied: autoimmune diseases (Sjögren’s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis), lymphoproliferative disorders (chronic lymphocytic leukemia), and kidney graft rejection from upstream approaches (epigenetics and autoimmunity, the genetic control of BAFF, calcium signaling, regulatory B cells) to downstream approaches (multicenter clinical trials, IVIg, patents).

His studies have yielded 230 original articles and reviews.
