Our research is centered on HIV evolution and adaptation to its environment in the infected patient.
Between 1998 and 2009, our group mostly studied HIV drug resistance, including mechanisms of resistance, evolution of virus populations under pharmacological pressure by antiretroviral drugs, fitness cost of resistance and development of resistance monitoring assays.
Since 2009 most of our research is devoted to examining adaptation and evolution of HIV under pressure by species-specific restriction factors (intrinsic immunity), innate immunity (interferon), and adaptive immunity.
