Kamel MOHAMMEDI is a Professor of Endocrinology in the Faculty of Medicine of Bordeaux (University of Bordeaux, France) and Chief Physician in the department of endocrinology, diabetology and nutrition in Bordeaux university hospital since 2017. He is also an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the George Institute for Global Health (Sydney, Australia).
Kamel is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine of Oran (Algeria). He completed his clinical training in endocrinology, diabetes and nutrition in Paris (France). He worked for more than ten years as an endocrinologist in Bichat hospital (Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris, France). He holds master, PhD and HDR (habilitation to conduct research) degrees from Paris-Diderot university. He worked as PhD student and researcher in the INSERM (French Institute of Health and Medical Research) Unit 695 (Paris 2009 - 2012) and UMRS U1138 (Paris 2014 - 2015). He spent a research year in the George institute for global health (Prof. John CHALMERS, Sydney, Australia, 2015 - 2016).
His has 12 years research experience in the clinical, epidemiological, and genetic fields with a focus on diabetes-related vascular complications including the role of low-grade inflammation and oxidative stress in diabetic complications, and the relationship between microvascular disease and lower-limb peripheral artery disease. He was a principal (or coordinator) investigator for a number of national and international randomized clinical trials and observational prospective cohorts. He has been supported by several grants from the French Health Ministry, the Francophone Foundation for Diabetes Research, the Francophone society of diabetes, and the association “Aide aux Jeunes Diabétiques". He published about 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers. He is regularly invited as referee for major journals in diabetes and cardiovascular fields. He also has extensive experience in student teaching, postgraduate supervision and mentoring.
