Jean-François Bergmann, M.D., is Professor of Therapeutics at University Paris VII teaching the methodology of clinical trials and clinical pharmacology and therapeutics. He is the head of the Internal Medicine A and Infectious Diseases Unit (72 beds) in Hospital Lariboisiere Paris. This unit takes in charge in-patients with infectious diseases, thrombosis, emergency medicine and internal medicine.
He is a clinical external expert for the EMA and for the French Commission for New Drugs Authorization (AMM) . Since 2002, he is the vice-president of the French AMM committee at the French Drug Agency (Afssaps) . He is the former vice-president of the Transparency Committee (reimbursement committee) at the Afssaps (1996-2001) . He is the president of the Drugs Committee for the AP-HP (30 public Parisian Hospitals).
His research topics are the clinical pharmacology of anticoagulants (metabolisms, interactions, use in elderly patients) and the prophylaxis of DVT in medical patients in and out-patients: evaluation of the risk for DVT, therapeutic strategies for an optimisation of the prophylaxis, guide-lines for family doctors. His is also working on clinical pharmacology and therapeutics for metabolic diseases, infectious diseases and hepato-gastroenterology. His research and teaching activities concern therapeutic strategy, drugs development, reimbursement and pricing of new drugs and evaluation of the global benefit/risk ratio of new drugs in various therapeutic fields.
